Educational Visits

Every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances.

Learning beyond the classroom is the use of places other than the classroom for teaching and learning. It is about getting children and young people out and about, providing them with challenging, exciting and different experiences to help them learn.

It is about raising achievement through an organised, powerful approach to learning in which direct experience is of prime importance. This is not only about what we learn but importantly how and where we learn. It is not an end in itself but rather a vehicle to develop the capacity to learn. Good quality learning beyond the classroom adds much value to classroom learning.

Y5 & Y6 visit to Sunderland Empire- Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat

A wonderfully behaved group of year 5 and 6 experienced a trip to Sunderland's Empire Theatre to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. It was a really enjoyable and fun musical for all, additionally, Mrs Turnbull received an email from a Senior Leader of a different school, who was enjoying the show herself, to commend on our children's behaviour and conduct - we are very proud.

EYFS visit to the local Fire Station

Another fantastic trip out into the local community for our EYFS children.
This time to Bedale Fire Station! The children loved meeting Dave the watch manager and listening to how firefighters help people in the community. He demonstrated how some of the equipment worked and we even got to sit in the fire engine and listen to the sirens! We discussed how to stay safe on ‘Bonfire Night’ and had the chance to ask lots of questions! The children were absolutely blown away with this afternoon’s learning.

Y3 Old Bedale

Year 3 loved exploring  the oldest and newest parts of Bedale. They enjoyed observing the different noise levels , traffic, litter damage to buildings and green spaces. They also created a tally for the different types of buildings they could see! The children walked beautifully and we are very proud of how well they represented our school.  Well done, Year 3!

EYFS visit to the Allotments

A fantastic first trip out into the community to visit our local allotments and meet Mr Bruce!. The children were very sensible, walking carefully and looking after their partner. They were respectful and polite with members of the public and we were so proud of how they behaved. They listened well to Mr Bruce, who kindly showed us around the allotments and talked to us about harvesting fruits and vegetables.  A journey to the park on the way back to school was fully deserved!
The Early Years children were very keen to draw maps of the journey when we got back to school!

Visit to the Ice House
Our Year 4s had an excellent time this afternoon visiting Bedale’s ice house. We had a look at the old building and lots of discussion about what it would have been used for and why it was placed where it was. The children were very inquisitive and interested! They walked so beautifully and represented our school so well, we are incredibly proud of them.

Fountains Abbey

What a fantastic day Year 2 had at Fountains Abbey today. They behaved so well, listened carefully, and have hopefully come home with lots of new facts and information to tell you. We will carry on our learning about Fountains Abbey in our History lessons this half term. Can your child remember how many baths a year a Monk had?

Local Area Art Walk

Year 6 walked around our local area to find the right spot to engage in pencil sketching. We have been developing our use of B and H graded pencils and now understanding terms like proportion and perspective.
